This program takes advantage of the Master Patient Index subscription control methodology to share verified health insurance information (SVI) with all sites treating the Veteran. This is the same functionality that populates the list of sites within the CPRS Remote Data Views feature.

Once the Veteran’s health insurance has been entered, the system invokes a number of consistency checks to ensure key information is included. If the patient’s information passes the consistency checks, the system then reviews the Treating Facility List file for that Veteran’s entries. The user is notified that the patient is seen at other sites, and will be prompted to share the information entered. If the user answers yes, the system will transmit the data to the other subscribing sites. This new process pushes verified insurance information to those remote sites where the patient has been treated by sending the information to the other sites’ Insurance Buffer file. Insurance Verification clerks at the receiving site will review these buffer file entries and will process them in the same manner as other file entries.
